I TOTALLY thought Musk would hit his 80k-90k target. Totally.
Not really.

It reminds me of a former employer I had seven years ago that kept putting completely unrealistic expectations on us and demanded that we meet them. When we pointed out that they were unrealistic, they scoffed.
I just wish that Elon would release REASONABLE expectations some time or another and then meet/beat them.

There’s meat under that fluff. He doesn’t need to add the fluff. Why add the fluff?! Just serve the meat. If it means your stock trades for less, so be it.

Hey, a good goal should hurt and he got pretty close to meeting it. Im more impressed they are selling that many electric only cars than anything else. I mean...Chevy has moved only 110,000 volts since 2010.

As Marx said,
“Publicly traded stocks should have reasonable valuations based off of all known information available to investors. Companies should never release incorrect information regarding their status to influence the market price of their own (or others’) stock.”
Stupid Marx.

An aggressive, yet attainable goal is the best thing to have. Was 80-90k aggressive? YES. Was it attainable? If it was...
I think what makes me a bit annoyed about this constant “almost but not quite” goal vs results method that they’ve been doing the past few years is it makes me jaded when the company (read as: Musk) issues any other announcements. What am I to believe?

How do the Model S and X compare to their respective categories on a global scale?
At least in the US, the Model S is the best selling “Large luxury sedan”, easily beating the Mercedes S / BMW 7 / etc.

They have the opposite of the Apple approach, which is to always aim low with guidance so that they can beat it.

Depends. Teslas have been popular in Norway because of huge incentives for buyers of EVs but they’ve dropped off dramatically due to foreign exchange fluctuations.

Goodcarbadcar doesn’t have December sales numbers yet, but
year-to-date through November
had the S-Class at 17,309, the 7 series at 11,605, and the Audi A8 at 3,648. Were you to lump all Teslas together as a single model they would be somewhere around the 25th best selling car (of 163), slotting in around the C-Class, Passat, Camaro, 3 Series, Legacy, and Challenger.

Looking at the “mainstream” cars they outsold that’s not bad. Especially from a company that’s only been selling cars for a decade (and that’s if you count the rare-as-hell roadster. Real sales with the S only started five years ago).
